Course topics: Language and thought. From behaviorism to cognitive psychology. Chomsky\'s conception of internal grammar. Component syntax. Linguistic competence and linguistic performance. Computational theory of mind and linguistic recursivity. Psychological aspects of cognitive categorization. Basic theoretical models of language acquisition - associativism vs. nativism. Hypergeneralization and the principle of analogy. The hypothesis of words and rules in the context of aphasia research. Intuitive use of proper names in children.
