Course topics: 1. Introduction to the study of the course. Concepts of codification of law and legal codes. Modern (sectoral) legal code - characteristic features, differences from historically older legal codes. Causes and purpose of creating modern legal codes. Positive and negative aspects of codification of law. 2. Important European civil codes: the French Civil Code (CC) of 1804; Austrian General Civil Code (ABGB) of 1811; German Civil Code (BGB) of 1896. 3. Codification of substantive criminal law in France and Germany. 4. Codification of civil procedural law and criminal procedural law in France and Germany. 5. Codification efforts in Hungarian Empire in the 18th and 19th Centuries. 6. Codification development in the period of dualism in civil and commercial laws. 7. Codification development in the period of dualism in criminal law. 8. The importance of sources of law in the First Czechoslovak Republic in the context of codification and unification efforts. 9. Codification and unification development in the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic in civil and commercial laws. 10. Civil Code of 1964. 11. Changes in substantive and procedural criminal law after 1960.
