Course topics: Theoretical part: - interpreter as a profession, - the personality of the interpreter, - Basic terminology (including the terms deaf interpreter, relay interpreter, CODA interpreter ...), - interpreting vs. translation, interpreter vs. translator, - knowledge, skills and competences of the interpreter vs. knowledge, skills and competences of the translator, - simultaneous vs. consecutive interpreting, - spoken vs. sign language interpreting, - the specifics of the Deaf community - in relation to the profession of interpreter (Deaf clients and their needs and specifics) and in relation to the profession of translator, - Legislation relating to interpreting for the deaf contrasted with legislation governing spoken language interpreting, - Approaches to interpreting for the deaf contrasted with approaches to spoken language interpreting, - Interpreting and translation of spoken vs. sign languages - history and present, - interpretation and code of ethics, - types of interpreting according to different aspects: community interpreting, educational interpreting, public interpreting, cultural/artistic interpreting, court interpreting, - professional organisations of interpreters (spoken vs. sign language) at home and abroad, - training of interpreters (spoken vs. sign language) at home and abroad, - forms of making the delivered speech in Slovak language accessible to deaf clients. Practical part: - baseline sharing analysis, - target sharing synthesis, - identification of sharing content, - memory, - attention, - emergency.
