Methodology of scientific work (YOsM016)

Course topics: Brief outline of the course: Lectures 1) Characteristics of evidence-based nursing practice. 2) The structure of nursing as a science, scientific language, terminology. 3) Basics of scientific research work, methodology of scientific work. 4) Basic characteristics of a scientific study, formulation and definition of the research problem. 5) Determination of the research sample. 6) The essence, origin and role of hypotheses in science. 7) Determination of the method of conducting the study, the kitery of choosing the method of collecting empirical information. 8) The specifics of the formation of quantitative and qualitative research studies in nursing. 9) Case study as a qualitative method in nursing research. 10) Scientific information databases. 11) Recommendations, guidelines and standard procedures in scientific research activities, ethical issues of working with scientific information. 12) Grant agencies – science, research, science financing, publication and presentation of results of scientific research work Seminars 1) Terms of evidence-based nursing practice. 2) Barriers to evidence-based nursing practice. 3) Search strategy for formulating and defining the research problem. 4) Systematic search of relevant available evidence in selected databases of professional and scientific databases (PubMed, Medscape, WOS, Scopus). 5) Obtaining information through search systems. 6) Gathering existing information. 7) Evaluation of the quality of evidence obtained. 8) Analysis of weaknesses and strengths of research methods according to the research problem. 9) Analysis of the concept of research procedures in the research process. 10) Search for scientific research procedures and recommendations. 11) Analysis of clinical procedures and recommendations (guidelines). 12) Preparation of a project proposal for a grant agency, preparation of a publication paper, report, abstract.
