Course topics: • Stylistics as a linguistic discipline, subject, functions, relations with other disciplines, basic terminology, macro- and micro-stylistics; • Style as a basic concept of stylistics, functional styles, characteristics of individual styles, texts demonstrating functional styles; • Individual style and its characteristics, analysis of listening and written language material; • Stylistic devices synonyms, archaisms, historicisms, neologisms, doublets and dialects; • Foreign words, types of foreign words (anglicisms, francisms and others), buzzwords and their functions in German text; • Argotisms and youth speech, individual style and typical linguistic devices of youth speech; • Stylistic means of illustration, tropes and figures, simile, metaphor, metonymy, epithet and others, pragma-linguistic functions and effects of stylistic means in texts • Stylistic colouring, scale of stylistic colouring, expressive means of expression, analysis of concrete journalistic texts (tabloid press); • Phraseological linguistic devices and their use in individual styles, idioms, proverbs and sayings; • Dialects and their influence on the stylistic structures of language; • Grammar and stylistics, verbosity as a stylistic device, ellipsis, parenthesis and grammatical breaks; • Polysyndetic and asyndetic connections, repetition, parallelism and antithesis, stylistic and phonetic means of expression, rhyme, rhythm, melody of language and its colouring, practical analysis of listening language material.
