Introduction to German language learning (XNJB015)

Course topics: • Language as an object of linguistic research, language its functions and properties, linguistics and its characteristics, linguistics its relationship to other scientific disciplines; • Levels of language and their characteristics, disciplines of linguistics and their use in linguistic research; • Phonetics and phonology, characteristics of the discipline, subject, basic concepts, vowels, phonemes, transcription; • Morphology, characteristics of the discipline, subject matter, basic concepts, word and morpheme, sememes, word species in the German language; • Syntax, characteristics of the discipline, subject, basic concepts, sentence - its function and definition, classification of sentences, sentence articles, traditional and dependency syntax; • Lexicology, characteristics of the discipline, subject, basic concepts, basic disciplines of lexicology, word formation and basic processes of word formation (derivation, conversion, prefixation, suffixation and others), semantic features of words (antonyms, homonyms, synonyms and others); • Pragmatics, characteristics of the discipline, subject matter, basic concepts, speech acts, their description and use; • Textual linguistics, characteristics of the discipline, subject, basic concepts, text and its characteristics, functions and subdivision of the text; • Stylistics and rhetoric, characteristics of the discipline, subject matter, basic concepts, characteristics of style, functional styles and their description; • Research methods in linguistics, synchronic and diachronic approach to language research; • Linguistic Approaches, Prague School, Young Grammarians (Junggramatiker), Structuralism (F. de Saussure); • New trends in linguistic research, corpus linguistics and its characteristics.
