Overview of assistance to disaster victims in the world and in Slovakia (most affected countries, most frequent disasters, geographical distribution of disasters by continents). Population protection, Integrated rescue system. EU and UN disaster response mechanism. Humanitarian aid, International humanitarian law. An overview of international, national and non-governmental organizations dedicated to disaster relief. Migration crisis as an international humanitarian and political crisis in the EU (Migration process, Refugee camps, Specifics of working with the target group). Vulnerable groups. Psychological and ethical aspects of disasters. The role of the social worker in helping disaster victims (preparatory phase, post-acute phase, community recovery). Crisis intervention, Involvement of local resources-communities in helping victims, Volunteering. Burden management for disaster relief staff.
