Course information

Course topics: Students enrolled in this course (also known as \"Street Law\"), under the “Daily Law\" curriculum, practice by learning the basics of community legal awareness, they usually provide knowledge to convicted in custodial institutions and / or high school students (usually at grammar schools). In the spirit - \"teaching others - you teach yourself\", students have the opportunity to experience the practical side of their future profession by confronting their views and ways of learning with target groups such as convicts and high school students. During the term, students get acquainted with interactive ways of learning about law, usually some of them start teaching at the institution for imprisonment (e.g. Hrnčiarovce nad Parnou, Nitra, Bratislava) and the other part usually starts teaching in secondary schools (e.g. Trnava, Pezinok, Bratislava). Students lead lessons concerning law topics through experiential learning, such as role-playing, solving various cases, leading discussions or simulating court hearings. Students attend two-hour exercises per week, where they present their activities on a specific topic, get feedback from their colleagues and discuss individual legal issues. They first train presenting the given topic in practical classes and later teach them \"in the field” (school, prison). The visit to the mentioned institutions is done on a weekly basis, on a different day than the practical classes take place. There are seven meetings with the communities during the semester in total, the time required for one meeting is 90 minutes. Set of topics suitable for teaching: 1. Legal order. 2. Fundamental human rights and freedoms. 3. Right to life. 4. Right to privacy, letter secrecy. 5. Freedom of expression and the right to information. 6. Home inviolability and freedom of home. 7. Property rights and neighbour relations.
