Course topics: 1. Penology and penitentiary science. History of punishment. 2. Prison history and development of prison system in Slovakia. 3. Purpose of the prison sentence execution. 4. The Prison and Court Guard Service as a detention and punishment authority. 5. Characteristics of the environment of custody and imprisonment. 6. Personal qualifications of convicts. 7. Ensuring the rights of convicts. 8. Selected areas of penitentiary practice eg. employment of convicts, social work, regime activity, disciplinary authority, etc. 9. Treatment determination of accused and convicted persons. 10. Parole. 11. Continuity of penitentiary and post-penitentiary work. 12. Alternative punishments and possibilities of their implementation in conditions of Slovakia.
